2017 SEASR Recap

The 5th SouthEastern Association of Shared Resources (SEASR) annual meeting – Launch your core and your career:Professional development, project management, and measuring impact – was held June 7- 9, 2017 at the Sheraton Tampa Riverwalk Hotel in Tampa, FL. SEASR, a chapter of the Association of Biomolecular Resources Facilities serves the greater ABRF community by offering a regional meeting which allows core facility directors and personnel and more cost effective choice in venues.  SEASR along with the other chapers, the Midwest Association of Core Directors (MWACD), Northeast Region Life Science Core Directors (NERLSCD), the Western Association of Core Directors (WACD) and the MidAtlantic Directors and Staff of Scientifc Cores (MADSSCi) hold annual meetings to build a community of core directors, managers, administrators, and staff in their respective regions of the US.

The SEASR agenda was characterized by a combination of scientific, administrative, professional development, and networking sessions and workshops. Keynote and plenary speakers included Howard McLeod, PharmD, Marco Davila, MD, PhD, and Christine O’ Connell, MMSc, all from the H. Lee Moffitt Cancer Center and Michael Zwick, PhD (Emory University School of Medicine), Priscilla Pemu, MD, MS, FACP (Morehouse School of Medicine), Rosario Isasi, JD, MPH (University of Miami), and Francois Modave, PhD (University of Florida).

The meeting kicked-off with a fabulous Illumina-sponsored Opening Reception at the Columbia Museum. An evening of attendee networking was also held on June 8th at a Poster Session coupled to a Wine & Cheese Reception. The winner of a $500 travel award for best poster was Ruth Davis from the University of Georgia Bioexpression and Fermentation Facility. Congratulations Ruth!!!
